This course promotes mental health as a dynamic construct occurring on a continuum. Application of advanced practice nursing models with clients that require mental health promotion, have complex psychiatric problems or are at high risk with focus on care of families and children with mental health concerns. Collaborative process in therapy, consultation, and planned change with use of child and/or family therapy modalities and the utilization of pharmacotherapeutics. A total of 180 hours of clinical experience in a mental health setting is required.

Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of "B" in BSN-DNP Core courses. Corequisite(s): NURS   9151.

Application of advanced practice nursing models with clients with substance use and related disorders. Collaborative process in therapy, consultation, and planned change with use of assessment, diagnostics, individual and group therapy modalities, and the utilization of pharmacotherapeutics. A total of 180 hours of clinical experience in a mental health setting incorporating substance abuse services is required.

Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of "B" in BSN-DNP Core courses. Corequisite(s): NURS   9152.

NURS   9917   Clinical Project I

The DNP final project is a three step process. Student work independently with the guidance of a Project Committee and agency sponsor. Step one is problem identification, step two is project implementation, and step three is evaluation and dissemination. In Clinical Project I, the DNP student will design an evidenced-based project aimed at improving a health care outcome in their area of interest and expertise. The focus is on problem identification, completion of a needs assessment, and an appropriate literature review. Prerequisite(s): Completion of Graduate and Specialty Core with a "B" or better.

NURS   9918   Clinical Project II

This is step two of the DNP final project. In Clinical Project 2, the DNP student will implement the project designed in Clinical Project 1. The focus is on implementation and data collection. Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of "B" in NURS   9917.

NURS   9919   Clinical Project III

This is step three of the DNP final project. In Clinical Project 3, the student will evaluate and disseminate project results. Findings will be disseminated in a professional format. Prerequisite(s): Minimum grade of "B" in NURS   9918.
