Visual Arts B.F.A.

Degree Requirements: 124 Credit Hours

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Visual Arts degree program develop the knowledge, skills, concepts, and sensitivities essential to the professional artist. The BFA is often the degree preferred by colleges and universities when applying to a Master of Fine Arts graduate program. Although studio practice is of prime importance while BFA students prepare for professional careers, they must also develop a broad knowledge of art history, art materials, and techniques in order to advance their skills by choosing an emphasis in either ceramics and ceramic sculpture, drawing and painting, fibers, graphic design, photography or studio studies. Students must demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skill to professional practices such as exhibition, oral presentation, promotion, and critique of their artwork.

The campus is located within the city limits of Savannah, Georgia, which inherently provides ample opportunities for art students to broaden their studies by visiting museums, galleries, and numerous businesses that exhibit artwork or historical artifacts. Locally, art receptions and art events take place regularly, providing occasions to extend classroom experiences into the culturally diverse community.
