COMM 5333G - Theories of Mass Communication (3 Credit Hours)

Examines the development of mass media systems and the resulting theoretical perspectives. Encourages theory application as means of understanding and explaining what happens to us individually and as members of a society as mass communication became possible and now as media systems are being adapted. Graduate students will be expected to produce a research manuscript with original analysis that includes primary or secondary data suitable for presentation at conferences, emphasizing how the research supports, expands, or contradicts contemporary mass communication theory.
