Gerontology Minor

Minor Program Electives: 15 Credit Hours

Fifteen semester hours of courses with a significant aging-related focus, in at least two different disciplines other than the major program of study, are required for the minor. Courses may be selected from the list of courses below. Other courses may be used in the minor if approved by the minor program coordinator.

• HDFS 3136 - Adult Development and Later Life (3 Credit Hours)
• HDFS 4132 - Death and Bereavement across the Lifespan (3 Credit Hours)
• HDFS 4237 - Legal and Public Policies Affecting Families (3 Credit Hours)
• PSYC 3103 - Lifespan Developmental Psychology (3 Credit Hours)
• PSYC 3339 - Older Adult Developmental Psychology (3 Credit Hours)
• PUBH 4231 - Health Aspects of Aging (3 Credit Hours)
• SOCI 2130 - Introduction to Gerontology (3 Credit Hours)
• SOCI 3135 - Aging (3 Credit Hours)
• SOCI 3338 - Sociology of the Life Course (3 Credit Hours)
• SOCI 4135 - Death and Dying (3 Credit Hours)
• Up to three credit hours of independent study, internship or capstone project may be substituted into the minor if the internship/project has an aging-related focus, with permission of the minor program coordinator.

Advisement

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors.
