Southern's Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR)

New Freshman & Transfer Students

Once accepted for admission, all new degree-seeking undergraduate students must attend Southern’s Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR). SOAR is a mandatory orientation program for new incoming students (freshmen and transfers) to assist with their transition to University life. At SOAR, students will receive information about how to succeed both in and outside of the classroom through sessions with faculty, staff, and current students. Attendance at this program is how a student will receive their course schedule from academic advisors. Family members and supporters are encouraged to attend SOAR. There is a fee for both students and guests to attend. Accepted students may find more information and complete an online reservation, linked from the SOAR website, GeorgiaSouthern.edu/SOAR.

Fully Online Program Students

Students that have been admitted into fully online programs demonstrate to Georgia Southern an intent to enroll and commitment by registering for a SOAR date. This SOAR date is set to the first day of classes as online students do not have a formal SOAR event to attend. Once an admitted student registers for that commitment date, their academic advisement team will be notified and begin informing the student of next steps specific to their program. Accepted students may find more information and complete an online commitment reservation, linked from the SOAR website, GeorgiaSouthern.edu/SOAR.
