Georgia Southern University is the state’s largest and most comprehensive center of higher education south of Atlanta. With 149 degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, Georgia Southern has been designated a Carnegie Doctoral/R2 university and serves more than 33,400 students from all 50 states, two territories and 140 countries.

With four vibrant campuses - the Statesboro Campus, the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, the East Georgia Campus in Swainsboro, and the Liberty Campus in Hinesville - Georgia Southern offers an attractive campus environment that encourages learning, discovery and personal growth. Georgia Southern is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has earned special accreditation from professional and academic associations that set standards in their fields.

Emphasizing academic distinction, excellent teaching, research and student success, Georgia Southern enrolls both undergraduate and graduate students through 11 colleges: the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Science and Mathematics, the Honors College, the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies, the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, the Parker College of Business, the Waters College of Health Professions, and the newly established University College.

Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern has grown to four campuses: a 900-acre quintessential college setting in Statesboro, featuring Georgian-style, red-brick historic buildings and modern contemporary buildings set amid pines and oaks and home to more than 20,000 students; a 268-acre arboretum campus just minutes away from historic downtown Savannah and a short drive from the sunny beaches of Tybee Island with more than 5,000 students; a nearly 400-acre campus located in Swainsboro, Georgia, also called the “Crossroads of the Great South,” with a traditional college setting in a pine forest featuring nature trails and an outdoor oasis that is home to several protected species; and a modern, state-of-the-art facility in Hinesville geared for local and military-affiliated students.

Georgia Southern fields 17 NCAA teams with storied programs that have achieved national accolades on and off the field. In addition to six FCS national football championship flags flying at Allen E. Paulson Stadium, Georgia Southern teams and individuals regularly compete for conference and national honors. In 2014, Georgia Southern moved to the Football Bowl Subdivision’s Sun Belt Conference, claiming the Sun Belt crown in its first season in the Conference. In 2015, the team won the 17th GoDaddy Bowl in its first season of bowl eligibility and won the JLab Birmingham Bowl in 2025. The University’s NCAA athletics teams include football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s cross country, women’s swimming and diving, softball, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s rifle.

Georgia Southern University’s East Georgia Campus is home to the Golden Eagles, competing as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Continental Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles compete in baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s cross country. As Georgia Southern’s newest athletic program, the Golden Eagles are building a tradition of excellence through hard work, perseverance and a commitment to success. All Golden Eagles student-athletes are students in Georgia Southern’s University College, where they are supported in pursuing success in the classroom, in competition, and beyond.

The University also has an active alumni program serving 162,000 alumni around the world. Some of the University’s prominent alumni include: Otis S. Johnson, Ph.D., a two-time mayor of Savannah (Armstrong); country music star Luke Bryan; Mike Davis, former executive director of the United States Golf Association; Stratton Leopold, Hollywood producer and local entrepreneur (Armstrong); Hala Moddlemog, retired president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber; and Dan Cathy, chairman, president and chief operating officer of Chick-fil-A.

The Georgia Southern University General Catalog is an information book and reference guide dealing with different aspects of the University - its policies, facilities, degree programs, course offerings, services, and faculty.

The statements set forth in this Catalog are for information purposes only and should not be construed as the basis of a contract between the students and this institution.

While the provisions of this Catalog will ordinarily be applied as stated, Georgia Southern University reserves the right to change any provision listed herein, including but not limited to academic requirements for graduation, without actual notice to individual students. Every effort will be made to keep students advised of such changes. Information on changes will be available in the Office of the Registrar. Ultimately, each student is responsible for keeping himself or herself apprised of current graduation requirements in their particular degree program. While academic advisors should be consulted regularly, students are responsible for the completion of their chosen degree programs.
