CSDS 4050 - Sociocultural Bases of Communication (3 Credit Hours)

This course explores key concepts of culture as it relates to verbal and nonverbal communication using a global perspective. The course will address topics such as barriers to communication; dimensions of culture; multiculturalism and culture’s influence on communication. In addition, students will examine cultural and linguistic variation/language difference versus language disorders. Course materials and activities are designed to expand students’ intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and intercultural competence in the area of speech, language, and communication.
