HDFS 3234 - Young Children with Special Needs (3 Credit Hours)

This course focuses on promoting the optimal development of young children with special needs in inclusive settings. Building on a foundation of child development and the components of high quality early childhood programs, learners investigate needs which delay or modify the course of a child’s development. The course offers an introduction to educational and intervention policies, programs, practices and services appropriate for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers who exhibit delays and disabilities. This course includes observation and application in off-campus education sites. Students enrolled in the Human Development and Family Science B.S. Concentration in Birth-Kindergarten (Certification Track) must earn a grade of “B” or higher to meet Georgia teacher certification requirements.

Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of “C” or concurrent enrollment in HDFS 3131 .
