REP - Regents’ Engineering Pathway Program

The Regents’ Engineering Pathway (REP) Program was established in 1986 to expand access to engineering education for students across Georgia. This program provides an affordable and seamless transfer pathway for students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

Through the REP program, students begin their engineering education at one of the participating University System of Georgia (USG) institutions, completing 30 or more credit hours of foundational coursework in mathematics, science, and engineering. After successfully meeting the program’s requirements, students can transfer to one of the REP Engineering Institutions-Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, or the University of Georgia-to complete their degree in an accredited engineering program.

This pathway allows students to stay closer to home during the initial years of study, benefiting from lower tuition costs while preparing for a smooth transition to a four-year engineering program. The REP program supersedes the former Regents’ Engineering Transfer Program (RETP) and does not require participating institutions to establish Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with USG institutions.

REP Partner Institutions

REP students may begin their coursework at any participating USG institution. These institutions offer the foundational courses necessary for students to transition into a designated engineering major at one of the REP Engineering Institutions.

Transfer and Admissions Guidelines

Admission to Georgia Southern’s REP Program

Students interested in enrolling in the Regents’ Engineering Pathway (REP) Program at Georgia Southern University are not required to meet any additional admission criteria beyond the university’s standard undergraduate admission requirements.

Students may enter the REP Program through one of the following pathways:

  • Freshman Admission: Students admitted to Georgia Southern as first-year students may begin their coursework in the REP Program without any special application process. They must simply declare an engineering pathway and work with an academic advisor to select the appropriate courses.

  • Transfer Admission: Students transferring from another institution must meet Georgia Southern’s general transfer admission requirements. There are no additional GPA or coursework prerequisites specific to the REP Program beyond the university’s standard transfer policies.

Once admitted to Georgia Southern, students can work with their academic advisor to ensure they are on track to meet transfer requirements for their intended REP Engineering Institution, if applicable.

Transferring to a REP Engineering Institution

Students enrolled in Georgia Southern’s Regents’ Engineering Pathway (REP) Program who wish to transfer to another REP Engineering Institution-Georgia Institute of Technology, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, or the University of Georgia-must meet the admission and transfer requirements of their intended institution.

To successfully transfer, students must:

  • Meet the admission requirements of the receiving REP Engineering Institution, including GPA, prerequisite coursework, and any additional program-specific criteria.

  • Complete the necessary coursework at Georgia Southern, including foundational mathematics, science, and engineering courses required by the receiving institution.

  • Submit a formal application for transfer to their chosen REP Engineering Institution before completing the REP coursework at Georgia Southern.

  • Obtain a recommendation from Georgia Southern’s REP Program Coordinator, Dr. David Calamas, as part of the transfer process.

Important Considerations:

  • Admission to another REP Engineering Institution is competitive and subject to each institution’s selection criteria. Participation in Georgia Southern’s REP Program does not guarantee acceptance into a receiving institution.

  • Transfer requirements vary by institution and program and are subject to change. Students should maintain regular communication with their academic advisor to stay informed about transfer policies.

  • Some engineering disciplines not offered at Georgia Southern-such as Biomolecular, Chemical, and Nuclear Engineering-may require specific prerequisite coursework before transfer.

Advisement

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
