Elective Courses: 12-18 Credit Hours


Any lower-division course in any field in which knowledge of a world language will benefit the student is acceptable for Field of Study. Students should consult with their advisor on appropriate courses for Field of Study. Additional language courses are encouraged:

Area of Concentration: 21 Credit Hours


  • Students will select one area of concentration.

Minor or Second Major Required Credit Hours: 15-30


  • Select 15-30 credit hours of Minor or Second Major courses (credit hours will vary according to minor or second major).

Arabic Studies (Statesboro Campus)


  • 18 upper-division credit hours in ARAB.
  • 3 additional upper-division hours in ARAB or, as approved by the Department Chair, in COML, FORL, or LAST.

Chinese Studies (Statesboro Campus)


  • 18 upper-division credit hours in CHIN.
  • 3 additional upper-division hours in CHIN or, as approved by the Department Chair, in COML, FORL, or LAST.

French Studies (Statesboro Campus; Online Campus)


  • 18 upper-division credit hours in FREN.
  • 3 additional upper-division hours in FREN or, as approved by the Department Chair, in COML, FORL, or LAST.

German Studies (Statesboro Campus; Online Campus)


  • 18 upper-division credit hours in GRMN.

Other Program Requirements


  • Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in each course in the major.
  • Students must complete the Word Languages & Cultures Exit Exam.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 39 upper-division hours.

Advisement


Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
