The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) prepares students to improve health in our communities and abroad with our four emphasis areas. Students learn to plan, implement, and evaluate disease prevention programs and activities to promote a healthy lifestyle. They learn to identify and examine environmental pollutants. They investigate how diseases spread. They make a difference in populations around the world. 

Degree Requirements: 124 Credit Hours

General Requirements (Core IMPACTS): 42 Credit Hours


Additional Requirements: 4 Credit Hours


Select 15 credit hours from the following:


If BIOL 1002  and BIOL 1002L  or BIOL 1107  and BIOL 1107L  were not taken in Technology, Mathematics and Sciences, at least one should be taken in Field of Study.

Major Requirements: 30 Credit Hours


Directed Major Electives: 9 Credit Hours


Select 9 credit hours from the following Directed Major Electives and/or Public Health courses from another BSPH emphasis area:

Area of Emphasis: 15 Credit Hours


Students will choose one area of emphasis from the following:

  • Community Health 
  • Environmental Health Sciences
  • Epidemiology

Other Program Requirements


Program Admission Criteria

  • Admission to Georgia Southern University
  • A total institution GPA of 2.0 or better on all course work attempted (transfer coursework and work completed at Georgia Southern University are considered) . All transfer credits must be evaluated by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions and posted on the Georgia Southern transcript upon official acceptance to the University.
  • Completed a minimum of 60 credit hours
  • A minimum grade of “C” in all Field of Study coursework attempted
  • The student must have completed or be registered in PUBH 2131  

Program Progression Requirements

  • Students must also earn a minimum grade of “C” in a prerequisite course(s) prior to registering for an advanced course.
  • Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in all major courses, Directed Major Electives, and Field of Study courses; and have a GPA of 2.5 AND above to enroll in PUBH 4798 .

Advisement


Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
