General Requirements (Core IMPACTS): 42 Credit Hours


  • Mathematics and Quantitative Skills – Must take MATH 1112 , MATH 1113  or MATH 1441  
  • Technology, Mathematics and Sciences – Must take MATH 1441  if not taken in Mathematics and Quantitative Skills above

  • 1 credit hour of PHYS 1210 Survey of Physics  carry over from Field of Study
  • PHYS 3630 Undergraduate Seminar  is a 1 credit hour course, repeatable for up to 3 credits. 1 credit hour is required in the Major Requirements of the BS in Physics degree. Additional repeated hours will can be used to fulfill Major Elective requirements.

Major Electives: 13 Credit Hours


  • Choose 6 credit hours of PHYS/ASTR 3000+
  • Choose 7 credit hours of PHYS/ASTR/MATH/ENGR/MENG/EENG/CENG 3000+ or departmental approved 3000+ course
  • Electives from this section can be used to fulfill optional concentration requirements

General Electives: 21 Credit Hours


  • 2 credit hours of 3000+ needed if not fulfilled elsewhere
  • Electives from this section can be used to fulfill optional concentration requirements and concentration course prerequisites

Other Program Requirements


  • Students must successfully complete the Major Field Test as a departmental exit exam.

A general BS in Physics degree can be earned by completing the requirements outlined above. However, a focused concentration area can be earned by completing specific requirements. The Major Electives and Free Electives of the Major program can be used to fulfill concentration requirements.

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
