The Bachelor of Health Sciences degree provides an interdisciplinary experience for students entering the health professions that includes learning opportunities in health sciences, information technology, writing and composition, public health, and career development.  

The degree’s online structure, required and elective course flexibility, and interdisciplinary approach to learning are designed to meet the educational and career needs of the learner.  

The degree program is well-suited for students wishing to enter clinical and/or community settings, as well as those wishing to enter clinical studies prior to graduation.  The program also provides support for students who wish to continue their academic preparation through graduate studies.  

A total of 124 credit hours are required for the degree, with 24 hours of core requirements.  In addition to 6 hours of free electives, the degree provides 30 hours of major requirement options from a host of courses to select from.

Admission Requirements

In addition to a completed health sciences program application made to the department, students must seek regular admission to Georgia Southern University. Students must be eligible for MATH 1001 Quantitative Reasoning  or ENGL 1101 Composition I .

Progress Requirements

All students are required to submit evidence of liability insurance and a health assessment prior to beginning their practicum.

Students must complete the degree program within six consecutive years from the date of their initial admission to the major. Students who do not complete the program within this time limit must apply for readmission, meet current criteria for admission, and have their previous credits calculated. Students who are granted readmission must meet course requirements in effect at the time of readmission. A minimum grade of C or better must be earned in each course in the major.

It is recommended that all bachelor of health science students have current CPR certification at the time of graduation.

Advisement

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
