Radiologic Sciences, B.S.R.S.

Location(s): Armstrong-Savannah

At Georgia Southern University, the Department of Clinical Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Sciences with five concentrations leading to initial certification. The Traditional BSRS degree program at Georgia Southern University is a secondary admissions program, and students will choose one of the five available concentrations that lead to initial certification in that discipline.

  • Radiologic Sciences - Concentration in Cardiovascular/Interventional Science, B.S.R.S.
  • Radiologic Sciences - Concentration in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, B.S.R.S.
  • Radiologic Sciences - Concentration in Nuclear Medicine, B.S.R.S.
  • Radiologic Sciences - Concentration in Radiation Therapy, B.S.R.S.
  • Radiologic Sciences - Concentration in Radiography, B.S.R.S.

The Radiologic Sciences - Special Options Program, B.S.R.S.  is designed for technologists who are registered or registry-eligible in one area (radiography, nuclear medicine, or radiation therapy) to complete their degree and become certified in an additional area. Students will take courses alongside students in the Traditional B.S.R.S. degree concentrations. Program courses are offered face-to-face, hybrid, and online in the same format as the Traditional B.S.R.S. offerings. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a baccalaureate degree and will be registry-eligible in one of the following areas:

  • Nuclear medicine
  • Radiation therapy
  • Sonography

The Radiologic Sciences - Bridge Program, B.S.R.S.  offers a degree completion program for credentialed radiographers, radiation therapists, sonographers, and nuclear medicine technologists. If you are certified by the ARRT (R, T, N, CI), NMTCB (CNMT), CCI (RCIS), or ARDMS (RDMS), then you may qualify to complete this B.S.R.S. degree in Radiologic Sciences program. This program is fully online, and Georgia Southern offers credentialed professionals two track choices for completing this degree program. Students must submit credentialing information upon acceptance to the Bridge program. Once accepted, students will choose between the Clinical Track or the Non-Clinical Track for degree completion.

  • Clinical Track
    • The clinical track features coursework concentrated on advanced clinical skills, such as CT, MRI, or mammography. The mammography concentration is only available to credentialed radiographers. Completion of the clinical education requirements will lead to eligibility for certification in CT, MRI, or mammography.
  • Non-Clinical Track
    • The non-clinical track offers fully online courses providing a variety of leadership, management, and technical communication educational experiences.

B.S.R.S. (Traditional and Special Options) Degree Requirements: 130 Credit Hours

See Core IMPACTS - Clinical Health  for required courses in Core IMPACTS and Additional Course Requirements.

General Requirements (Core IMPACTS for Clinical Health): 42 Credit Hours

Additional Requirements: 4 Credit Hours

Field of Study Guided Electives: 3 Credit Hours

Nuclear Medicine students who have not completed a Chemistry sequence in the Core must complete one Chemistry course with lab as the guided elective.

Radiation Therapy students who have not completed a Pre-Calculus course in the Core must complete a Pre-Calculus course as the guided elective.

Sonography students who have not completed a Speech Communication course in the Core must complete a Speech Communication (COMM 1110 Public Speaking ) course as the guided elective.

Exit Examinations: B.S.R.S Traditional and Special Options

Exit Examinations are given as part of each track’s Synthesis course. A score of 75% or greater on two exit examinations is required, in addition to meeting other course requirements in order for the student to pass the Synthesis course and graduate from the degree program. Program faculty reserve the right to administer additional attempts.

The exit exam requirements for sonography and cardiovascular interventional science students may differ from the other tracks since they qualify for registry exams prior to graduation. Details concerning the aforementioned are elaborated in specified sonography and cardiovascular interventional science course syllabi.

Total Credit Hours: 130

Radiologic Sciences Bridge Program: 33 Credit Hours

Upon completion of 80 semester hours towards the degree, technologists who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, Cardiovascular Credentialing International, or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography will be awarded equivalency credit hours in the major. The amount of credit will be based on the technologist’s academic record and professional portfolio.

Full- and part-time study is available. Students seeking admittance to the Bridge program must first obtain regular admission to Georgia Southern University.

Degree Requirements

The degree consists of 130 semester hours, 64 hours in the core (see above) and 66 hours in the major. You will be given 33 semester hours, 1/2 of the major, for your primary certification.

Options for Completing Degree Requirements at a Distance

Admission Requirements: Traditional and Special Options

Application Period: November 15 through March 1

Late applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Qualified applicants that met the March 1 deadline will be granted priority over applications received after the initial deadline. Certain programs may continue to review applications after the deadline until the program’s capacity is met.

Admission to Georgia Southern University does not guarantee admission to the concentrations in Radiologic Sciences. The department has a separate formal admissions process in addition to the admission process for the University. Applicants are required to submit a formal application to the program of interest and transcripts of all college and technical school course work.

Please note this due date does NOT apply to the Bridge Program. You may apply to the Bridge Program at any time here.

Radiologic Sciences Minimum Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be accepted by Georgia Southern University.
  • Applicants must apply and pay for the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS) Application. Bridge students do not need to apply using this link.

Admission Requirements: Bridge Program

Admission to Georgia Southern University:

All transfer credits must be evaluated by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions and posted on the Georgia Southern transcript upon official acceptance to the University.

Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the Radiologic Sciences Bridge degree completion program.

Meeting admission criteria does not constitute acceptance into the program.

  1. Students must submit documentation of credentialing by  ARRT (R, T, N, CI), NMTCB (CNMT), CCI (RCIS), or ARDMS (RDMS).
  2. Students must submit transcripts from all educational institutions for evaluation by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions upon official acceptance to the University.

Progression Policy

A grade of “C” or better is required for each course in the major field of study. If a student earns a grade of less than “C” in any of the required courses in the major, the student will be placed on academic probation for the duration of the program and must repeat the course the next time the course is offered (typically the next year). This may result in the student joining a new cohort. Students may repeat a course in the major field of study only once. For a student on academic probation within the degree, if a second grade of less than “C” is earned in any of the required courses in the major, the student will be dismissed without the possibility of readmission to the degree for a period of five (5) years.
