Computer Science, M.S.

Location(s): Statesboro, Armstrong-Savannah, Fully Online


Degree Requirements: 30 Credit Hours


Admission Requirements

Regular Admission

Domestic Candidates:
  1. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in a related field (Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, etc.) from an accredited program OR Bachelor of Science in a non-computing field with at least two years of relevant professional experience in computing.
  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 or its equivalent.
  3. Submit a General GRE score.
International Candidates
  1. International students must enroll in the hybrid delivery program in order to be in compliance with F-1 visa status.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in a related field (for example, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, etc.).
  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent.
  4. Submit a General GRE score.
  5. Submit a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (internet-based). The TOEFL will be waived for international applicants who have graduated from a U.S. College or University.

Provisional Admission

Applicants who meet most (but not all) of the Regular admission requirements may be admitted on a Provisional basis. Applicants granted Provisional admission must earn grades of “B” or higher in the courses taken under the Provisional admission status. Any other conditions of Provisional admission will be stated in the admission letter. Applicants with such admission status may take graduate-level courses counting toward the M.S. degree requirements. It is every student’s responsibility to satisfy their conditions of admission as soon as possible after acceptance. Prerequisites for provisionally admitted students consist of the following graduate courses:

Total Credit Hours: 10 Credit Hours


Non-Degree Admission

Applicants who have a high number of deficiencies may be granted Non-Degree admission to the College of Graduate Studies to take a limited number of graduate level courses.

Program of Study


Thesis Track:

The graduate student and the graduate advisor shall develop a Program of Study that consists of 30 credits of graduate course work, including 10 credits of core courses, 11 credits of elective classes at the 7000 level, and 9 credits of Thesis (CSCI 7999 ).

Non-Thesis Track

Research Project Option

The graduate student and the graduate advisor shall develop a Program of Study that consists of 30 credits of graduate course work, including 10 credits of core courses, 17 credits of elective classes at the 7000 level, and 3 credits of Research Project in Computer Science (CSCI 7899 ) (project option).

Course Only Option

The graduate student and the graduate advisor shall develop a Program of Study that consists of 30 credits of graduate course work, including 10 credits of core courses, 20 credits of elective classes at the 7000 level, and CSCI Graduate Technical Seminar (course only).

Concentration: 9 Credit Hours


All students must choose one of the following concentrations: 

  • Software Engineering
  • Software and Cyber Security
  • Machine Learning
  • Data and Knowledge Systems

Computer Science Electives: 2-11 Credit Hours


Thesis Track students will select 2 credit hours of CSCI 7XXX courses.

Non-Thesis Track students will select between 8 and 11 credit hours of CSCI 7XXX courses depending on selected culminating experience.

Capstone: 0-9 Credit Hours


Students with a 3.8 GPA or higher are encouraged to select the Master’s Thesis option.

Thesis Track: 9 Credit Hours


Thesis credit hours are taken during the last semester.

Non-Thesis Track (Culminating Experience): 0-3 Credit Hours


Research Project Option

This option requires 3 credit hours of a Research Project in Computer Science (CSCI 7899 ) (project option).

Course Only Option

Students selecting this option will substitute 3 elective credit hours (total of 11 credit hours of CSCI electives) of CSCI electives for the research project. This option requires students to take CSCI Graduate Technical Seminar (course only).

Total Credit Hours: 30
