This program is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as a program leading to initial certification with a Georgia level five service certificate in Instructional Technology, School Library Media, or Dual Certification in Instructional Technology/School Library Media. Candidates must successfully complete their respective GACE content assessment(s) to become certified. Note: It is the students’ responsibility to confirm that their academic plans meet current certificate requirements of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
To be eligible for admission to the Instructional Technology and Dual Certification Instructional Technology/School Library media concentration(s), candidates must possess or be eligible for a valid Georgia level four or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate, or Life certificate. Candidates may apply for the School Library Media concentration who do not currently possess a valid level four or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate.
Admission Requirements
Regular Admission
- Complete requirements for a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an appropriate institutional accreditor.
- Present a minimum 2.5 (4.0 scale) grade point average.
- Instructional Technology or Dual Certification Instructional Technology/School Library Media Concentrations: Possess or be eligible for a valid Georgia level four or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate, or Life certificate if applying to the Instructional Technology or Dual Certification Instructional Technology/School Library Media concentration(s). Candidates who have completed all requirements for the Georgia level four teaching certificate have until the end of the first semester to obtain the certificate. Candidates with an out-of-state certificate will not receive Georgia certification upon program completion.
- School Library Media Concentration: Possess or be eligible for a valid Georgia level four or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate, or Life certificate unless seeking first initial certificate in Georgia. Candidates who have completed all requirements for the Georgia level four teaching certificate have until the end of the first semester to obtain the certificate. Candidates with an out-of-state certificate will not receive Georgia certification upon program completion. Candidates not currently certified and seeking their first Georgia certificate will be required to submit a completed “Disclosure and Affirmation Form” that addresses misconduct disclosure, criminal background check, the Code of Ethics for Educators, and tort liability insurance.
Provisional Admission
Applicants may be approved for provisional admission based on the quality of the admission material presented. Provisional students must earn grades of “B” or higher in their first nine (9) credits of coursework after admission and meet any other stipulations outlined by the department to be converted to regular status.
