Educational Leadership Tier II Certification
|

The program is a 18 graduate hour fall admission only program administered through the Cohort Process and includes a Residency (a performance-based, supervised field experience) which is guided cooperatively by the University and the school/district partner. The curriculum is based on an inquiry approach that emphasizes problem-solving and research skills applicable to a multitude of education topics and issues, and is intended to enhance current and future educational leaders’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions.

Degree Requirements: 18 Credit Hours
The Post-Master’s Certificate in Educational Leadership Tier II is designed to prepare Educational Leadership (EDLD) candidates who hold a specialist or doctoral degree with Tier I certification for Tier II advanced leadership positions that include P-12 school level principals or the equivalent, superintendents, or other LUA staff who supervise principals pursuant to the GaPSC Educational Leadership Preparation rule (Rule 505-3-.77). Candidates must be currently employed and serve in a leadership position as defined by the state of Georgia in a P-12 school or district-level setting in order to complete required field experience hours. Admission Requirements:
- Complete requirements for a specialist or doctoral degree from a college or university accredited by an appropriate institutional accreditor.
- Present a 3.00 (4.00 scale) grade point average on all graduate work.
- Hold a valid Georgia certificate Tier I entry level certification, or hold a Tier II certificate if that certificate is based on completion of an Educational Leadership program that led to a Georgia L or PL certificate.
- Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Applicants must be currently employed and serve in a leadership position as defined by the state of Georgia in a P-12 school or district-level setting in order to complete required field experience hours.
- Submit a passing score on the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment.
- Submit a signed school/district agreement from the candidate’s employer that indicates that the Local Unit of Administration (LUA) and school agree to allow candidates to complete 750 hours of clinical practice (supervised field experiences) and provide supporting documents, as well as access to opportunities to lead and participate in leadership functions as appropriate for completion of leadership performances.

Other Program Requirements: - Upon admission, candidates must claim Georgia Southern University as their provider. Candidates must log into their MyPSC account and claim Georgia Southern University as their provider.
- Candidates completing a Tier II program shall be required to take the Georgia Performance Assessment for Educational Leadership (PASL). A passing score on the state-approved performance assessment is not required for program completion; however, candidates shall attempt the assessment prior to program completion, and a passing score is required for Tier II certification in Educational Leadership.
- Candidates in Tier II preparation programs shall participate in performance-based experiences in courses as well as during an extended residency. The extended residency shall consist of 750 clock hours of extended, job-embedded residency work. This work provides significant opportunities for candidates to synthesize and apply the knowledge and practice and develop the skills identified in the standards through substantial, sustained, standards based work in real settings in real time (actual P-12 school and LUA settings or similar settings for candidates employed in agencies or organizations not classified as P-12 schools or LUAs). Such a residency shall be planned and guided cooperatively by the EPP and LUA or employer through candidate support teams that develop and manage individual induction plans for each candidate.
- All candidates must pass the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment prior to completion (if not completed for program admission).
