Admission Requirements
Admission to the Bachelor of Science degree in communication sciences and disorders (B.S. in CSDS) requires regular admission to Georgia Southern University. Students must also be eligible for MATH 1001 Quantitative Reasoning and ENGL 1101 Composition I .
Progression Requirements
- Students must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0.
- Students must also earn a grade of C or better in all required courses in Area F, the major courses, and additional course requirements, including electives.
- Students who earn a D or F in courses in Area F, the major courses, or additional course requirements, including electives are allowed to repeat these courses only one time each.
- Earning a D or F in any of these courses more than once will result in dismissal from the B.S. in CSDS degree program.
- Students dismissed from the B.S. in CSDS program for academic reasons will not be eligible for readmission to this degree program.
- Students must complete periodic benchmark assessments to measure their attainment of Student Learning Objectives.

Special Requirements Not Related to Coursework
- Students are required to complete programmatic assessments at various specified points through the degree program.
- These assessments will measure students’ attainment of stated Student Learning Objectives (SLOs).
- Students who do not demonstrate attainment of SLOs measured for each assessment will be given an opportunity for intervention or remediation for SLOs not mastered.
- Students who do not meet the stated benchmarks for each assessment may be required to participate in further intervention or remediation until they demonstrate mastery.
- Students are required to complete a speech, language, and hearing screening administered by the program.
- Students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program will interact with members of the community through required volunteer and clinical observation experiences. All students must demonstrate professional behaviors and adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Students are required to obtain 25 clinical observation hours verified with a signature by a certified audiologist or speechlanguage pathologist as required by ASHA.
- Students are also required to obtain 10 hours of volunteer activities that are unpaid and serve the professions, University or the Community.
Advisement
Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
