Information Technology, B.S.I.T.

Location(s): Statesboro, Armstrong-Savannah

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) is changing our world including how we live, work, learn and play. IT is becoming pervasive across almost everything we do. The same is true for businesses. A wide range of employment opportunities in IT exist because IT is required for most companies to be competitive or even to exist in today’s markets. IT remains one of the FASTEST GROWING JOB SECTORS in America. The IT program at Georgia Southern University prepares students to hit the ground running in emphases in information management, networking and datacenter management, cyber-security, web and mobile development, as well as our new data science concentration. Delivery of our curriculum involves significant HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES in world class facilities. Students are engaged and learn practical, current and applied skills that are valued by employers. Academic Alliances with industry partners provide IT majors with experience using state of the art equipment with access to professional level software; and our IT Internship program assures that students are WORK-READY when they graduate.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (IT) is an ABET-accredited 4-year undergraduate program for students interested in professions in IT fields. Students in the program will learn computing fundamentals (for example, programming, and data & system analysis), be familiar with various computing systems (for example, databases, data centers, and computer networks), solve technical problems, and make a positive contribution to society. Students will also be able to select an emphasis or a concentration in one of the following areas: Cyber Security, Data Science, Health Informatics, Information Management, Networks and Data Center, and Web and Mobile. All students will complete a capstone project and an internship program before graduation.
