MENG 3331 - Materials Science (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 0,2 Lab Hours: 0,3 This course introduces students to a general background of the field of materials science and engineering. Fundamental topics (such as chemical bonding in materials, crystal structure and defects, diffusion, and phase diagrams) and techniques available for materials characterization will be introduced. The effects of the material process and testing methodology on the material structure and properties will also be introduced. The course will demonstrate that the behavior of materials is directly linked to their fundamental structures, and how structures and hence properties may be altered through manufacture processing.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of “C” in all of the following: CHEM 1212K or CHEM 1310 , ENGR 3233 .
