FREN 3040 - French through the Arts (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 French Art is one of the major attractions of France as a cultural tourist destination. People come from all over the world to admire cathedrals, mosaics, châteaux, museums, sculptures, tapestries, music festivals, andplays, their stunning artistic and cultural value in general. In the nineteenth century, Paris became the world capital of art and it was here that modern European art was born, leading to a reexamination of the meaning and purpose of art. This course will explore some of the greatest names(Leonardo da Vinci, Monet, Rodin…) and the development of art through its historic movements (Medieval, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Modern…). Over the centuries, france has contributed extensively to the common cultural heritage of humanity. Conducted in French.
Prerequisite(s): A min grade of ‘C’ in FREN 2002 or FREN 2060 or departmental approval.
