CRJU 3432 - Gangs and Society (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 This course examines the historical development and contemporary influence of gangs as well as their criminal and noncriminal activities. Emphasis is placed on myths associated with gangs, individual and structural forces influencing juveniles to join gangs, differentiating gangs from other organized criminal groups, how gangs fit into society as a whole, the impact of gangs on the criminal justice system, and the effectiveness of policies and initiatives aimed at reducing gang activity.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of “C” or better in CRJU 1100 .
