ARTH 4251 - Modern Art (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 This course examines the radical changes that occurred in Western Painting, sculpture, photography, architecture and design from the beginning of Modernism in the late 19th century through the twentieth century. The approach will be lively and broad, utilizing ideas from diverse disciplines including theology, philosophy, literature, music, fashion design, politics, economics, sociology, psychology, the history of technology, and physics. Some of the most culturally significant artists, movements, and masterpieces of modern art will be addressed in readings, lectures, videos and discussion. Students will engage in a variety of activities both in and out of the classroom including lecture, discussion, research, and/or writing exercises.
Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of “C” in ARTH 2532 or permission of instructor.
