ENGL 5840 - Contents and Methods English (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Introduction to the major currents and figures in modern critical and literary theory since the “New Critics,” looking at the basic concepts, philosophical assumptions, and historical and ideological contexts of figures such as Lukacs, Benjamin, Adorno, Bakhtin, Derrida, Foucault, Barthes, Deleuze, jauss, DeMan, Lacan, Cixous, Irigaray, Kristeva, and Homi Bhabha.
