Area F - Courses Appropriate to Major

Any lower-division course in any field in which knowledge of a world language will benefit the student is acceptable for Area F. Students should consult their advisor on appropriate courses for Area F. Additional language courses are encouraged:

Major Requirements Credit Hours: 24

FORL 3100 - Exploring World Languages and Cultures (3 Credit Hours)
18 upper-division credit hours in FREN
3 additional upper-division hours in FREN or, as approved by the Department Chair, in COML, FORL, or LAST.

Minor or Second Major Required Credit Hours: 15-30

Select 15-30 credit hours of Minor or Second Major courses (credit hours will vary according to minor or second major)

Free Electives Credit Hours: 6-21

Select 6-21 credit hours of Electives as needed to complete 124 total credit hours (advisor approved)

Other Program Requirements

Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in each course in the major.
Students must complete the World Languages & Cultures Exit Exam.
Students must complete a minimum of 39 upper-division hours.

Honors in French

To graduate with Honors in World Languages & Cultures with a concentration in French Studies, a student must:

be admitted to the Honors College;
successfully complete an additional six credit hours in FREN at the 4000-level (for a total of 30 hours of upper-division FREN), three of which must be FREN 4890 (Honors);
successfully complete and present an Honors Thesis or Capstone Project;
be in good standing in the Honors College at the time of graduation.

Advisement

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
