The Cyber Security Certificate within the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) not only includes the courses in the BSIT’s Cyber Security Specialization, IT 3530, IT 4336, IT 4337, and the direct prerequisite to IT 3530, Introduction to Cyber Security, IT 2531, but represents the Georgia Southern University’s Cyber Security program.
Georgia Southern University’s BSIT is an ABET-accredited program. As such, the Program Learning Objectives for the Cyber Security Certificate, and the courses in it that are in the Cyber Security Specialization, closely mirror the Program Learning Objectives of our ABET-accredited BSIT. They are that students should be able to:
- Analyze a complex Cybersecurity problem and apply the principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Design, implement, and evaluate both computing-based and non-computing-based (such as policies and procedures) solutions to meet a given set of Cybersecurity requirements in the context of the program’s disciplines.
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
- Recognize the professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in the practice of Cybersecurity based on legal and ethical principles.
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
- Identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, integration, evaluation, and administration of computing-based and non-computing-based Cybersecurity systems.
The Cyber Security Certificate cannot be earned as a stand-alone credential. Therefore, in addition to completing the course requirements for the Cyber Security Certificate, it is necessary to complete the degree requirements for the B.S. in Information Technology degree program in order to earn the Certificate.
