Kinesiology - Concentration in Physical Education, M.S. (Online)


Degree Requirements: 36 Credit Hours (Online)


Admission Requirements

  1. Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Must possess a clear renewable (professional) teaching certificate in Physical Education or Health-Physical Education before starting the graduate program.
  3. Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 (4.0 scale).
  4. A full vitae or resume that includes the following:
    1. Work history,
    2. Professional experiences,
    3. Membership and participation in professional organizations,
    4. Other experiences related to the academic program, and
    5. Contact information for a minimum of three references.
  5. A personal writing sample that includes a description of teaching experiences and accomplishments, reasons for interest in the graduate program at Georgia Southern University, and career goals for the next five years. The written sample should outline the strengths and experiences that the applicant would bring to the graduate program.
  6. A lesson plan and formal assessment designed for a K-12 setting in Physical Education. The applicant may choose any activity that is taught in the K-12 Physical Education curriculum.
  7. A phone, internet, or in-person interview with Physical Education graduate coordinator.
  8. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required.

*Achievement of the minimum admission requirements of the College of Graduate Studies and requirements of the graduate program does not guarantee admission to that graduate degree program.

Accelerated Bachelors to Masters (ABM) Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education)


Degree Requirements: 36 Credit Hours

In accordance with SACSCOC requirements, 120 unique credit hours are required in a Bachelors degree program, and at least 30 unique credit hours are required for a Masters degree program. The Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education) ABM program combines 124 hours from the Health and Physical Education B.S.Ed. (Certification Track) program and 36 hours from the Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education) program, exceeding the required 150 unique hours between undergraduate and graduate degree programs by 10 hours. The Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies Handbook for Program Directors and Graduate Advisors permits a maximum of 9 shared credit hours between the undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Therefore, Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education) ABM students may share a maximum of 9 credit hours of graduate level courses in satisfying the requirements of both degree programs. The graduate courses will include Foundations of Technology-Enabled Learning (ITEC 5233G ), Analysis of Teaching Physical Education (KINS 7437 ) and Action Research in Physical Education (KINS 7590 ).

Admission Requirements

For regular admission to the Accelerated Bachelor’s to Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education) ABM degree program, the applicant must have:

  1. Enrollment as a current Georgia Southern undergraduate student majoring in Health and Physical Education B.S.Ed. (Certification Track).
  2. Between 75 and 95 (inclusive) credit hours completed in the undergraduate program; including the courses HLTH 3431 , KINS 3432 , KINS 3433 , KINS 3436 , and KINS 4440 , each with a grade of C or better.
  3. A 3.0 (4.0 scale) GPA or higher in undergraduate coursework.
  4. A 3.0 (4.0 scale) GPA in Health and Physical Education B.S.Ed. (Certification Track) undergraduate coursework.
  5. Must complete an application to the Kinesiology M.S. (Concentration in Physical Education) program.

ABM programs do not allow provisional admission. ABM programs are designed for students who have demonstrated a high level of undergraduate academic performance that validates their ability to be successful graduate students.
