Traditional B.S.R.S. Degree Program Admission Criteria:

Admission to Georgia Southern University:

All transfer credits must be evaluated by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions and posted on the Georgia Southern transcript upon official acceptance to the University. 

Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the Traditional Radiologic Sciences degree program. The department has a separate formal admissions process managed by the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS). Cohorts start each Fall Semester. See the webpage for the AHCAS application process.

Admission is made on a space-available basis and is limited to the best-qualified students. Meeting admission criteria does not constitute acceptance into the program.

1. Completion of all core requirements for the major before the program start date. Exceptions may be made for students lacking the legislative requirement or physical education requirement. Prior to the beginning of the program, the following must be successfully completed:
   • 50 semester hours of core degree requirements that include two college English composition courses and college algebra or higher.
   • Required lab sciences (significant preference for admission will be given to those applicants that have completed all of the five required sciences):
     • Traditional B.S.R.S. with Cardiovascular Interventional Science Concentration
       • Must include Human Anatomy and Physiology I with lab and three additional lab sciences in the program of study.
     • Traditional B.S.R.S. with Nuclear Medicine Concentration
       •  Must include Human Anatomy and Physiology I with lab, Survey of Chemistry with lab or Introduction to Chemistry with lab, Physics with lab or Physical Environment with lab, and one additional lab science in the program of study
     • Traditional B.S.R.S. with Radiography Concentration
       • Must include Human Anatomy and Physiology I with lab and three additional lab sciences in the program of study.
     • Traditional B.S.R.S. with Radiation Therapy Concentration
       • Must include Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs, Physics with lab or Physical Environment with lab, and one additional lab science in the program of study.
     • Traditional B.S.R.S. with Sonography Concentration
       • Must include Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs, Physics with lab or Physical Environment with lab, and one additional lab science in the program of study.
   • Students who are admitted to the program are strongly encouraged to complete the remaining CORE during the summer semester prior to the start of the program. Failure to meet all core requirements prior to beginning the program may delay your graduation.
   • Special Options (second certification) applicants must provide proof of ARDMS, ARRT, or NMTCB certification.
2. A GPA of 2.5 or higher for all college work. (Applicants with less than 2.5 may be considered under special circumstances).
3. A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses in Core Areas A, D, and F. 
4. A calculated GPA of 2.5 or greater in math and science courses found in Areas A, D, and F. This calculated GPA includes all passed and failed attempts of a course with the exception of courses for which academic renewal has been approved. 
5. Completion of required entrance exam by March 1st. Please refer to the degree program’s webpage at https://chp.georgiasouthern.edu/diagnostic/programs/radiologic-sciences/application-process/ for specific testing requirements. 
6. Students with outstanding admission requirements must provide proof of meeting the requirements to the program coordinator before the beginning of the admitted semester. Failure to do so will result in removal from the admitted list. 
7. Students who are dismissed from the program due to more than one (1) course failure may be considered for readmission to the program after a period of five (5) years. 

Applicants not meeting the criteria stated above may apply and will be considered under special circumstances at a later date.

Progression Policy

A grade of “C” or better is required for each course in the major field of study. If a student earns a grade of less than “C” in any of the required courses in the major, the student will be placed on academic probation for the duration of the program and must repeat the course the next time the course is offered (typically the next year). This may result in the student joining a new cohort. Students may repeat a course in the major field of study only once. For a student on academic probation within the degree, if a second grade of less than “C” is earned in any of the required courses in the major, the student will be dismissed without the possibility of readmission to the degree for a period of five (5) years.

The Radiologic Sciences B.S.R.S. Special Options program is designed for technologists who are registered or registry-eligible in one area (Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, or Radiation Therapy) to complete their degree and become certified in an additional area. Students will take courses alongside students in the Traditional B.S.R.S. degree concentrations. Upon completion of the Special Options program, the student will be awarded a Baccalaureate degree and will be registry-eligible in one of the following additional areas: Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, or Sonography. Program courses are offered face-to-face, hybrid, and online in the same format as the Traditional B.S.R.S. offerings.

Major Requirements-B.S.R.S. Bridge Program: 18 Credit Hours

The Radiologic Sciences-Bridge Program B.S.R.S. offers a degree completion program for credentialed radiographers, radiation therapists, sonographers, cardiovascular science technologists, and nuclear medicine technologists. If you are certified by the  ARRT (R, T, N, CI), NMTCB (CNMT), CCI (RCIS) or ARDMS (RDMS), then you may qualify to complete this B.S.R.S. degree in Radiologic Sciences program. This program is fully online, and Georgia Southern offers credentialed professionals two track choices for completing this degree program. Students must submit credentialing information upon acceptance to the Bridge program. Once accepted, students will choose between the Clinical Track or the Non-Clinical Track for degree completion.

• Clinical Track
  • The clinical track features coursework concentrated on advanced clinical skills, such as CT, MRI, or mammography. The mammography concentration is only available to credentialed radiographers. Completion of the clinical education requirements will lead to eligibility for certification in CT, MRI, or mammography.
• Non-Clinical Track
  • The non-clinical track offers fully online courses providing a variety of leadership, management, and technical communication educational experiences.

Upon completion of 80 semester hours towards the degree, technologists who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, Cardiovascular Credentialing International, or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography will be awarded equivalency credit hours in the major. The amount of credit will be based on the technologist’s academic record and professional portfolio.

B.S.R.S. Bridge Program Admission Criteria:

Admission to Georgia Southern University:

Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the Radiologic Sciences Bridge degree completion program. 

Meeting admission criteria does not constitute acceptance into the program.

1. Students must submit documentation of credentialing by  ARRT (R, T, N, CI), NMTCB (CNMT), CCI (RCIS), or ARDMS (RDMS).
2. Students must submit transcripts from all educational institutions for evaluation by the Undergraduate Office of Admissions upon official acceptance to the University.

Undergraduate Academic Advisement at Georgia Southern is provided to all degree-seeking undergraduate students by professional advisors. Academic Advisors are located on all three Georgia Southern University campuses. Students are required to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor at least once a semester.
