POLS 5105 - Homeland Security (3 Credit Hours) Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 This course provides an overview of the policies, administration, and organizations in the field of homeland security. Students in this course will analyze the political, operational, tactical, and environmental factors considered in making homeland security policy, with an emphasis on the U. S. in a global, comparative context. Topics include: the federal government’s role in homeland security (FEMA Director, Attorney General, secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, National Military Command Center (NMCC), the National Security Council, and the Joint Operations Center (JOC), the inter-governmental relationships within this issue area;military and civilian relationships in policy implementation; comparative and international homeland security policies; and homeland security strategic planning.
