Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry


Overview

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a well-balanced program for the education of its students. The Department offers three undergraduate degree programs, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in Chemistry, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with a major in Chemistry.

To prepare students for their professional careers, the Department is committed to providing quality teaching and research experiences emphasizing critical and independent thought. The curriculum provides strong innovative instruction in the theory and practice of the chemical and biochemical sciences. The degree programs are ACS-approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS, acs.org) while the biochemistry program also has accreditation by the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB, asbmb.org).

The programs are designed to introduce students to modern laboratory methods and technology using state-of-the-art scientific equipment. The faculty is committed to providing an environment that addresses the individual needs of each student and encourages them to develop their potential through lifelong learning and to be responsible members of the profession and community.
